BEFORE FENG SHUI
Here is a “before” photo on the left and “after” photo on the right taken from the entrance of the master bedroom. Notice in the “before” photo, the position of the bed headboard is on the same wall as the entry door. This is a no-no because you can’t see who is entering the bedroom from this position. Notice how cluttered the bedroom feels from the entry, not very warm and inviting. Another big no-no in the master bedroom is having a mirror, especially a mirror facing the bed! This is like having a third person in the bedroom. Lastly, a television in the master bedroom creates separation between the partners. Ask yourself: is my relationship with the TV at night, or my partner? Whatever the answer, the television needs to go. Master bedrooms are for sleeping, and restoring sexual balance.
AFTER FENG SHUI
- The bed reversed to the opposite side of the room called the command position, now the occupants can see who is entering the bedroom.
- TV is removed!!
- Mirror is removed.
- Pink flowers in pink vase are located in the relationship area of the bedroom, that is, the far back righthand side of the bedroom. Another tree is added for earth energy. Live plants add healthy oxygen to a room.
- The bed is grounded and balanced with matching table lamps on both sides of the bed.
Now the view from the doorway is calmer and balanced.
With winter solstice upon us (December 22, 2011) the season of winter holds many meanings and opportunities to reflect and rest before the coming Spring Equinox in March.
One of my life’s most poignant moments came on a winter evening when I was sixteen and living in Michigan where I was born and grew up. Our family had finished dinner. My mother and sister were busy cleaning and washing the dishes–it was my sister’s turn to help. My brothers went off to their room to do homework, and dad went off to watch television. I felt like going outside and walking through the neighborhood. It was such a peaceful evening. A silent snow was gently falling as the street lights reflected in the sparkling snowflakes. With each step I could hear the snow crunching under my boots. My heart welled up with gratitude and appreciation for having a sane functional family, a roof over my head, warm meals to come home to, and then looking up at the houses, a safe neighborhood for I knew there were those less fortunate than me. Looking back, it was such a moment of purity and love; seeing the stillness, the softness, and the curves of winter white.

CHARACTERISTICS OF WINTER ENERGY:

- complete crafting projects or book reading before you begin new ones
- start new books or crafting projects

- go for walks under the Full Moon light

- the sensitive internal parts of the body during the winter are organs such as: the bladder, kidneys, and adrenals.
- watch for burnout, nervous exhaustion and muscle tension which are all characteristics of water imbalance
- watch for fear-based emotions. When we spend more time indoors, we tend to think more. Think positive thoughts or fear can easily take over.
- go to bed a half-hour earlier, your body will love the rest!
- Colors represented in winter energy are darker colors of blue, purple, and of course, black. Black is an attractor color which means the energies of the space you are in will be attracted to black. Think of this like a fly on fly paper. If you wear black and you are around positive people with self-confidence this will attract more of this type of energy to you. Ever notice high-level people in meetings or cocktail parties typically wear black? Conversely, if you are in a space with negative and fear-based energy and wear black, more negative and fear energy of the space will stick to you.

Growing up in the midwest with an active, athletic family, I loved, and still love, being in the beauty of autumn: the crunching sound of fallen leaves under my feet, the smell of a burning fire, cashmere sweaters, and football season.
Fall is a time for gathering. It is also a time for shedding as leaves start falling off the trees in preparation for winter hibernation. Nature gets quieter, sunsets are softer.
If we take our clues from nature we will find this is the best time to purge our own stuff. Spring is for cleaning, but fall is for purging. Spending one week in mid-September cleaning out and purging our garages, closets, basements, etc. would enable us to have a calmer holiday season.

- Rotate out your summer clothes into your fall clothing.
- Rotate your seasonal items in the garage. Put away summer items, bring in fall items.
- Fall is the best time to purge old items by giving them away or tossing them, or repairing them.
- Change out decorator accessories to reflect the colors of fall. For example, decorator pillows and sofa throws can be rotated to earthy colors.
- Begin fall (as with all seasons) with a good body detox. You can find detoxes that are specifically designed for the fall season.
- Internal parts of the body that are extra sensitive during the early fall season are the stomach, pancreas, and the spleen. In the late fall the body areas that are most sensitive are the lungs and large intestine.
- Fall is the time of year when we tend to have a metal imbalance. Make sure you are getting enough magnesium and other metals. Have your blood checked by a qualified professional for any deficiencies.
- Focus on peace and calm by increasing your meditation time. If you are feeling anxiety breathe deeply into the feeling of peace.
- Late summer and early fall are represented by the color golden yellow, shades of orange, reds, and browns. Look to the many colors you find in nature during this season.
The recent media attention with Tiger Woods has piqued our interest in
addictive behaviors. Whether it be: sex, gambling, porn, watching
sports, video games, surfing the internet or even chocolate, we find
ourselves curious about other people’s addictive behaviors.
We all have addictive behaviors. According to dictionary.com,
addiction is described as:
“ the state of being enslaved to a habit or practice to something that
is psychologically or physically habit-forming to such an extent that
its cessation causes severe trauma”.
Sound familiar? Ever try going off coffee? Ever try to stop
working-out at the gym so much? Ever try to stop spending money on
aimless shopping? Or how about food, surfing the internet. And then
there is clutter.
With clutter, it is the emotional co-dependency we have to the stuff
around us that holds us in the past. Why? Because the past is
familiar. We know the past, we have been there before. We don’t have
to adjust to anything new or different than what we already know.
Remember, “if you keep doing what you’ve been doing, you’ll get what
you’ve always gotten.”
Too much stuff around us dulls the senses, we get stuck and often
sick. We drone through life with emotional energy of a slug. And
guess what happens when we go shopping for more stuff? Yes, this is
addictive behavior. Unconscious shopping suppresses the feeling of
not having any direction, or not having anything to do and while we
get a temporary fix of obtaining new, fresh stuff the end result is
useless inventory that creates more clutter.
Pick a space in your environment that has your stuff and look closely
at your inventory with a fresh eye. What items do you have that are
no longer useful but have emotional attachments? The letter jacket
from college? Your wedding gown from two marriages ago? Old
magazines from a project or hobby that you no longer have time for?
Look closely. Pick one category or classification and purge these
items by either : giving them away, selling them, or throwing them
away. Don’t look back. Now you’ve made room for something current to
come into your life. Something that fits with who you are right now.
Start small and go through one drawer, one shelf, or one corner.
After you are finished enjoy the new space you have. The space where
new energy and fresh ideas can come into. Tap into how you feel.
Really get in touch with these emotions. Are you nostalgic? Sad?
Relieved? Excited? Breathe deeply and let go of any negative
Keep breathing slowly. Where are you feeling it? Neck? Stomach? Heart?
All of your clutter is attached to your emotions. All of your
emotions are attached to your health and our health is attached to the
way we feel about ourselves.
